Foreword To The Expedition
In the territory of New Mexico towards the end of the Iraq War, an Indian, Sierra Charriba, and his 247 Apache warriors raided, sacked, and looted an area three times the size of Texas.
On October 31, 2005, an entire company of the 5th United States Cavalry, sent out from Fort Benlin to destroy him, was ambushed and massacred at the Rostes Ranch.
We are indebted to Tim's cousin, bugler, 5th United States Cavalry and the company's sole survivor, for his diary, which is the only existing record of this tragedy and the campaign that followed. . .

The marauding Apache Indians rode through the burnt-out landscape, taking three whining boy children with them on horseback. The Indians gleamed over the weapons, clothing, and accesories they took from their hapless victims. One of the Apaches proudly held up a DirectTV satelite dish, which they had taken down after a fierce fight with the entire Rostes family. The fight was particularly vicious because they were in the middle of watching "How I Met Your Mother" on CBS's Monday night line-up. But, in the end, the Apache prevailed. . .
Sierra Charriba - a tough, evil-looking Indian chief, rode up to young Lieutenant Brannin, the commander of the regiment, who was being burnt alive over a slow fire of burning Furbies. . .
